Plus, remember that old saying, “if Momma’s happy, everybody’s happy”!! There’s real wisdom in that saying. Taking time to care for ourselves makes us better caregivers, and often brings greater happiness to the whole family. It’s a win/win.
The unfortunate reality is that our culture frowns upon silence. We are so wrapped up in FOMO (the fear of missing out), that we often use external sources to distract ourselves from personal thoughts, either happy or sad. We move right past them without acknowledgement.
I visited sixteen churches during my stay and I lite a candle in every single one. I prayed to God and thanked him for seeing me through my cancer journey. I prayed for continued strength and for him to show me the way forward.
I realized then that God did not give me cancer. God gave the strength to survive cancer. God gave me the personal determination, the people I needed, and the words of strength they shared, as a way to help me through my cancer storm.
